Nong Shim HooRooRook Ramyun

HooRooRook is a Ramyun by Nong Shim, and the package reads "Premium Korean Noodle Soup". The noodle is not fried, unlike the usual Ramyuns. This tasted surprisingly good. Unfortunately, you can't get this online but you can get other Nongshim Products @ Amazon

Umaido - Japanese style ramen noodles restaurant

Went to Umaido restaurant which was having a pre grand opening.

Outside view --

Menu in Korean --

Menu in English --
Pickled ginger slices --

Peeled garlics --

The main dish -- pork ramen noodles.
Comes with 3 slices of very tender pork meat, one whole egg, and some vegetables as you can see in the picture. I don't know what they are called.

I really liked the noodle's texture and flavor. I give this place a 3 out of 5. I would normally give it a 4 out of 5, if based purely on food, but this place is targeted for the younger people. As such, the place can be a little too rowdy at times.

Bi-Lo Lunch Combos Again

Went to Bi-Lo to get lunch combos.

2 slices of meat loaf, brussel sprouts, and mash potatoes with gravy. I would not get meat loaf again since it contained a lot of fat.

Another day, I had the usual 3 chicken tenders + mash potatoes and okra mixed in some kind of tomato sauce.

Bojangles Chicken

Bojangles Chicken 2 piece meal: 2 dark meat + biscuit + one side item for $4.69. I chose 2 drumsticks and cole slaw. The biscuit was wonderful, cole slaw was one of the worst cole slaw I have ever tasted. KFC's cole slaw is by far the best cole slaw I've eaten. As for the drumsticks, it was just plain old drumsticks. Nothing special deserving of its price. I give this a 2 out of 5.

Alexia Cruchy Snacks - Waffle Fries and Onion Strips

Alexia Crunchy Snacks have been advertising on TV lately, so I decided to give them a try. It looked like a healthier snack and most of all, it was different than what was out there. Flavors shown in the picture are Classic Ranch, Bold & Spicy BBQ, and Jalapeno Onion Strips. I also tried the Aged Cheddar waffle fries.

The conclusion: Aged Cheddar waffle fries is the best among the four flavors offered. It was so good I forgot to take a picture. The Classic Ranch + BBQ flavored waffle fries were extremely crunchy that it was almost too hard to bit into. The onion strips actually has real onions but it just didn't taste good. I can only recommend you try the Aged Cheddar waffle fries.

Alexia Snacks from Amazon

By the way, each of these cost about $2.50 - $3.00 in grocery stores.

Baked Ruffles

Baked Ruffles -- one of my favorite potato chips.
They are non-greasy and actually very tasty. Only downside is that this is a tad bit more expensive than the regular potato chips.

Bugles and Cheerwine

Bugles and Cheerwine - 2 old time snack items for me.

Bugles can be a little bit too salty for some if you eat too much in one sitting. There are several flavors to Bugles but the Original flavor is the best. If you can't find it in your local grocery stores, you can always get bugles from here: amazon grocery

Cheerwine -- soda named this way because it looks like wine. Soda named after alcoholic beverages were a fad back in the days in the likes of Ginger Ale and Root Beer. But somehow, Cheerwine is not as popular and you can find it only at select locations in the US. But thanks to amazon, you can get Cheerwine online anytime

Macy's coupon (11% off savings pass)

Here's how to get a Macy's coupon -- it's a savings pass that gives you 11% off.

Visit the Macy's website below to read what it's about:
http://www.macys.com/store/about/visitor/index.jsp

Basically, you go into Macy's and ask for a Welcome Savings Pass. They give you a savings pass that is good for 5 days after validation. In some states you simply go to the Gift Wrapping Dept. to ask for the coupon, but in most states you have to go to the Executive Office to get the coupon.

Visio Can't Resize UML State Shape???

I'm drawing a UML activity diagram and using activity state shape. Inside the state shape I have some text. When the text gets long, I would like to resize the shape so it looks better.

Well, I tried everything and I still couldn't find out how to resize a state shape in Visio.
After some googling, I finally found out that you have to use this trick --
1. Select the state shape.
2. Hit F2.
3. Edit the text to put new lines. Now you have multiple line in the state shape, which resizes the shape to look nicer.

Another note -- when you connect arrows between two states, the arrow is always a straight line. But in some cases you would want a "right-angle" line -- which is a line makes right angles at turns. So you right click on the line and you see in the options that a "right angle connector" is already selected. (I think this is a bug and may not be showing up in all visios). Anyways, what I do is select a "straight line connector". Then right click the line again to select "right angle connector". So an extra unnecessary step is required to make a line to be a right angle line.

Zipping & Unzipping Files in iPhone

How would you zip / unzip files in your iPhone app? Well, some nice person has already implemented an objective-c class to zip and unzip. It is called "ziparchive" and you can download it from here:

http://code.google.com/p/ziparchive/

Simple to use: just call addFileToZip or UnzipFileTo.
To add this to your xcode project, import all the files then delete the files minizip.c , miniunz.c and iowin32.c & iowin32.h. Also add libz.1.2.3.dylib to frameworks. Also the top level .m file's import statements have the path included like "../..". Remove those.

Then you should be good to go.

Keep in mind though -- it can only unzip a zip format. And not all zip formats are the same.
What works for me is this --
I create a zip file using the unix command zip. This zip file can be unzipped using the ziparchive.
If you use gzip for instance, you cannot unzip it using ziparchive.

Usage of zip command in unix (on mac, open up terminal) --
zip filename_of_zip inputfile1 inputfile2 ... (or use * to say all files in directory)

alternatively,

zip -r filename directory (zips up all files inside the directory. The directory itself is not included in the zip.)

and to unzip, simply "unzip filename.zip"

Mini Watermelon

Mini watermelon bought from whole foods for $3.99. Not worth the price. It did not have any sweetness and texture was too soft. Never to buy a mini watermelon again.

Make Free International Calls - Max 5 minutes per call

There is a free service that allows you to make international calls for free. It has a 5 minute time limit per call. After 5 minutes the call is disconnected but you can always call again.

Simply dial 1-800-FREE-411 (1-800-373-3411)
Listen to all the menu choices. Then say "free call"
You will have to listen to an ad.
Finally you get to dial the number you wish to call - don't forget to include the country code.

Sometimes you may get a message that says "All lines are busy , please try later." It's a free service so don't expect too much of it.

Since it's a 1-800 number the call should be free when you use any US land line phones.

But there is a better way!
If you use Skype to call the 1-800 number, you can make free calls from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world for 5 minutes.
(1-800 numbers are free within Skype)

Grilled Shabu Shabu

Shabu Shabu is basically thinly sliced beef (other meats can be used too) that you simply dump into a hot pot and pull it out when it's ready to consume. But it's the summer and preparing a hot pot was out of the question. So we tried a "grilled" shabu shabu.

Meat labeled as "for Shabu Shabu". This package was about $6. Forgot its weight.

The grill pan with veggies - mushrooms, onions, and zucchini.

Wrap a piece of meat on a lettuce and add chili paste.

Or simply eat the grilled meat with rice. This photo also shows a piece of green chili dipped on red chili paste.

Finish off the meal with a mike's hard lemonade (berry flavored).
