Using Google Webmasters for your Blog

Google has a great service called Webmaster Tools (http://www.google.com/webmasters/)
By adding your site to Webmasters tools, you get access to website diagnostics and statistics.

Try it out for yourself.

1. Go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and log in.
2. Add your website address
3. You need to verify you own this website. Select that you will verify using a META Tag.
4. The page will show you a meta tag enclosed in "<meta>".
5. Copy this meta tag and now log into your blogspot account.
6. In blogspot, go to Layout and click "Edit HTML"
7. Find the <head> tag and paste the meta tag as below.
If you don't have a slash at the end of the meta tag, put in one yourself. You will need it, ie. <meta blah blah blah />

<head>
    
    <meta content="'blah" blah="'" name="'verify-v1'/">
    ... ...


8. Now save it and go back to Google Webmaster tools.
9. Click verify and you should be verified that you own this website.

Now, when you are logged into Webmaster tools, go to Site Configuration and click Sitemaps.
Submit a sitemap for your blogspot, which should the URL of your blog feed.
For me, I submitted http://dosheey.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default as my sitemap.
